Bubonicon 40, the New Mexico Science Fiction Convention | August 22-24, 2008 | The Albuquerque Grand Airport Hotel | Albuquerque, NM

Once again, 7000 BC will in the dealers room at Bubonicon, along with group member Jamie Chase, with an assortment of comics, art, and prints.

This annual event is one of the premier gatherings of science fiction writers, artists, and fans. This year's guest of honor is David Weber, the toastmaster is Daniel Abraham, and the guest artist is Bob Egggleton.

Our friends Robert Stikmanz, Darla Hallmark, and Hadrosaur Productions will also be back in the dealer room

For August, we'll meet on the 10th around 1:00 at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture on Museum Hill at the Comic Art Indigène exhibit. We'll probably be there about an hour, and then head over to Second Street Brewery for business and the jam.

Remember, all New Mexico museums are free to state residents on Sunday.

This jam was produced on a pad of tracing paper, with each artist picking up on the shapes and themes from the panel underneath. Through the magic of Technology, that effect is reproduced in the PDF.

After the Warehouse 508 Block Party, we're going to head over to the New York Pizza Department on the northwest corner of 2nd and Central for our monthly meeting. We'll gather in the new "pizza lounge" in the back, where there is waiter service, so don't order at the counter.

Start time will be around 5:15, to allow us time to pack up from the Block Party and get over to NYPD (for those coming from the Block Party, plan on leaving your car and walking over).

7000 BC at Warehouse 508 Block Party

Warehouse 508, a new all-ages venue for the arts, music and beyond, and currently under construction at the old Ice House, is holding a free block party on Saturday, July 12. Starting at noon, the block party will showcase dance troupes, DJs, skateboard demos, a art gallery, and a car show featuring classic cars, lowriders, and high performance sports cars. At 5:00, outdoor activities will shut down and the rest of the evening will feature bands over at The Cell Theater on 1st and Lomas until 10:00.

7000 BC will be there with information about the group, comics, and our education programs, and will have comics from group members to check out.

Students will work together to create comics, through exercises designed to explore the different forms of collaboration, and pair up to complete a story. The many aspects of comic book production will be explored, including scripting, layout, penciling, inking, mock-up, cut and paste, digital elements, and traditional and non-traditional format and book design.

The workshop will take place at The Harwood Art Center, 1114 7th Street NW in Albuquerque.

$150 per student, need-based scholarships available. Ages 14 and up.

Michael and Peter will be teaching a seminar on Writing for Comics as a part of the Young Writer's Conference, an opportunity for writers ages 10-17 to spend a day in the company of writers and publishers. The comics writing workshop runs from 10:30-noon.

Santa Fe's Museum of Indian Arts and Culture presents the exhibition Comic Art Indigène, an examination of how American Indian artists articulate identity, reclaim stereotypes, worldview, politics, and culture through the kinetic expression of sequential art.

There is a preview party Saturday, May 10, 5:30-7:30 PM; the show officially opens on Sunday, May 11 at 10:00 AM and runs through January 4, 2009. Remember that admission to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and all other New Mexico state museums is free for New Mexico residents on Sundays.

The Santa Fe New Mexican has an article on the exhibit, and The Santa Fe Radio Café interviewed the curator.
